Big History for such a small house……
For such a small house, it certainly has a long history. During the 2014 renovations, it was deduced that the house has had five additions, all built around the original 1855 150 square foot structure! The initial builder was a George Schaufele, a cooper or barrel maker who in turn sold it to Charles Rauch in 1867, who in turn sold it to his brother George. The Rauch family owned a carriage works located just South on West 26th Street. In the early 20th Century, the house was used as a rental property and would stay in the Rauch family until 1930. It was then that next door neighbor, Joseph Gebura purchased the house as income property. Mr. Gebura installed indoor plumbing in the home and the family would own the house for the next 80 years until Tim Del Papa purchased it in 2011. Extensive renovations reconfigured the antiquated floor plan and upgraded all of the mechanics of the house. Now this inviting, cozy home offers all the modern conveniences with plenty of touches that remind of the house’s past.
